2. Solee – ‘To Heaven and Back’ – Parquet

Solee’s latest release brings two decidedly unseasonal tracks to his own excellent Parquet imprint. Both are warm, fun, and summery, but it’s the clever melodic arrangements and bold, brassy sounds of ‘To Heaven and Back’ that I’ve opted for here.

3. RWAC – ‘Im Schlepptau (Tim Engelhardt Remix)’ – Babiczstyle

I’m a big fan of Tim Engelhardt’s work, and his lovely ‘Isa’ on Pokerflat featured on the first episode of this podcast back in August. His new EP on Pokerflat is perhaps even better, so keep an ear out for that. This remix sees him return in fine style to Babiczstyle, as he gives a gentler, housier spin on RWAC’s track.

5. Alex Preda feat. Amber Long – ‘DNA Matching (Arnas D Dub)’ – Manual

Arnas D peppers in just the right amount of Amber’s vocals and Alex Preda’s ideas on this dub version of ‘DNA Matching’, but really, it’s all about the bass on this one – I really like how it works with the melodies ‘Deep Dream’ here.

6. Castano – ‘Specta’ – Keep Thinking

I haven’t been able to find out much about producer Castano, but this track is taken from a cool EP which also boasts a couple of remixes by Deepfunk. ‘Specta’ is a really understated track, but it’s got these super hypnotic, intense build-ups that give it some serious payoff.

7. Simos Tagias – ‘Wasted Dreams (Kasall & Cristian R Remix)’ – Movement

It’s not hard to see why Kasall & Cristian R are in such high demand these days, with their recent remix of Uvo’s ‘Long to Soon’ being a particular highlight. This is a nice and groovy take on Simos Tagias’s track, with a strong bassline and a deeply atmospheric breakdown.

8. Natural Flow – ‘Trip to Westeros (Dousk Remix)’ – Movement

How good is this? Superb use of vocals, a killer groove, and some retro synth melodies made this totally irresistible, and the busy, melodic breakdown only seals the deal. Immense work from Dousk here.

9. Philip James de Vries – ‘This Month Only’ (Michael A Balance Remix)’ – Strange Town

This is yet another epically good production from Michael A, who, as I’ve noted before, just seems to be getting better and better all the time. His remix of Philip James de Vries track drops the tempo (though i’ve pitched it up a bit in this mix), and works some magic with a churning, acidic bassline, a strong central theme, and a stunning and surprising use of vocals all combining into something really special.

10. One Million Toys – ‘While I Move’ – 238 West

I’ve liked One Million Toys’ brand of high-octane progressive house/techno crossover for a while now, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything quite this great from him before. The combination of the powerful bass parts, the intricately-programmed spinning hook, and the galloping, punchy percussion is unbelievably exciting – 238 West has become one of my go-to labels this year, and this is definitely one of their best releases so far.
