Amnesia Ibiza’s Longest Serving Resident Mar-T On Wow! Recordings

Mar-T is one of Amnesia, Ibiza’s longest standing residents. With almost 18 years big club DJ experience under his belt, it’s no wonder his imprint Wow! Recordings continues to go from strength to strength. We took some time out with the down to earth Spaniard.

Your label Wow! Recordings is currently within it’s 11th year of trading which is quite an achievement. What have been some of the label’s main highlights and best releases?

Mar-T: The best all time selling release for us was Darius Syrossian and Doorly collaboration which ended been last years most sold Tech House track on Beatport. It was a big surprise, you never know when a release is going to smash it. We also had a release from Latmun which went really well just before he started to release in other big labels so we kind of discovered him 🙂

Within the last 10 years there have been many highlights, however I can only remember the most recent ones!

What have been some of the biggest challenges you’ve had to face as label boss?

Mar-T: The main challenge for me is to be able to change the direction of the music policy of the label when I think the time is right. It’s key to make a very clear message through the releases we put out so our fans/followers understand and follow the journey with the label.

Your must receive demos, do you have time to listen to them all?

Mar-T: NO!! I have Luca helping me and I only listen to the ones he filters, we are getting dozens of demos and most of them are not good so this is the only way to make it work so I can have the time to listen to the ones which are really interesting for the label.

If a demo is good but needs refining, do you have time to help the producer and give them some advice?

Mar-T: I try not to change the original track but sometimes I ask for changes which I think will make the final result much better, then I test it in my sets and confirm that the changes are good.

What’s the best way for new producers of getting their music signed to Wow! Recordings?

Mar-T: E-mail links to tracks to demos@wow-recordings.com and please have some patience. It’s very important to listen to the latest releases and try to understand where we want to go.

Many times I receive amazing tracks but not for Wow!! Sometimes we even receive EDM!!!!!!

Which new talents are you most proud of signing to your label?

Mar-T: There are many, I really like them all, that is why I sign them. Although, it’s difficult for the label to sign new talents because people don’t buy music from newartistseven if the music is amazing, they want the guarantee of a recognised producer which makes me think that the tracks are good. New names would be Tian Karl, Creature and Rudosa, Salvatore Bruno… just to name a few.

What releases do you have coming up and are there any label parties in the pipeline?

Mar-T: We where going to do our usual party during Sonar week but it’s too much work and right now I don’t have the time to organise it. Next releases include new Cuartero track with remix from Harry Romero. ITS A BOMB!!!!

What do you predict in the future for dance music?

Mar-T: I hope vocals come back very strong, as right now it all sounds too samey. Hard times for me.

What personal releases and gigs do you have coming up?

Mar-T: I have appearances at UK festivals such as Creamfields and South West Four, my residency at HYTE AMNESIA, a remix of Emanuel Satie’s ‘Come As You Are’ on Saved Records in June, some new tracks which are not signed yet and a collaboration with Betoko.
