Introducing Russia’s Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills gives us the scoop on his new label Magic Moments

How old are you, where are you living and how long have you been producing and Djing?

I’m 29 (but feel like i’m 20) and was born in Russia. Right now I’m living in Bulgaria periodically but planning to move there permanently! I’ve been djing for about 8 years and producing for 6 years.

Where do your musical roots lie, what are your first memories of electronic music and when did you know you wanted to pursue it seriously?

Since 2005, I’ve been going to the clubs and from this time I like a house music. This party times was my first experience to the world of house music. Then I began moving to the music, closer and closer. My first DAW was a Live from Ableton. My elementary school 🙂 In those days I having a dream, to live on the coast. So in 2012 I’m lives in Bulgaria. Sunny Beach baby! 🙂

My favorite artists is Sasha, Maceo Plex, Guy Gerber, the great musicians, i think, also my mate Kostas Sakkas ”Saccao” helped me, many thanks him.

What is the state of electronic music or more specifically progressive house in Russia? The country was once a hotbed for new talent in the genre, is it still growing in your opinion?

Oh in Russia many talented producers, my favorite guys is Anturage & Swoy.

How difficult was learning to produce for you in the beginning?

As I said earlier, first I learned how to write in an Live, then in a Logic, watched too much a training videos and practice, practice, practice to writing a tracks. Of course thanks to my mom. She gave me a perfect rumor, thank you Ma))

What parts of the production process do you find the most difficult and what comes easiest for you? When you do hit a creative block what helps you through it?

When I write music, everything depends on my mood, it is transmitted to my works. This EP is no exception and it seems to me that Christopher has caught all the nuances of my music. Feel my mood.

You have a new EP entitled ‘Good Morning California’ out this week on A Must Have; alongside a lovely remix from Christopher Ivor.

Yes, Christopher is great, he made an excellent remix! In this moment i and my friend Freed52 started a music label called a Magic Moment. And all my energy is focused on this now. Many works will be released on some other labels, but we’ve saved some big tracks our label.

Apart from electronic music what other genres do you listen to and who are your favourite artists outside of electronic? and do these genres or artists have a direct effect on your own productions?

I can listen lo-fi, but not pop music, if I hear pop music, I immediately leave this place! I’m already told in the second question which artists inspire me )

What was the first and last physical (CD, Vinyl, Cassette etc)  piece of music you bought?

I do not remember. If honestly I’m for the innovations, cd in the past. Usually i’m used a computer or flash drive in my dj sets!

What five tracks are you currently loving the most at the moment?

Jose Vizcaino – Lenguaje Universal (Stonehouse Remix)
Dirty Doering – Dirty Talk (Original Mix)
in. deed – Love And Happiness (Original Mix)
Sasha & Polica – Out Of Time (Original Mix)
Sidney Charles – Makе Me Moove feat Lady Vale (Original Mix)

There are countless producers out there trying to find their way and create their own unique sound like you have, what advice do you have for them?

I can told you, how I got my sound! For 7 years I watched a bunch of learning video and all these day’s I’m writing music. Only your persistence and desire will help you find your style & sound.

If the final DJ/live set of your career was next week what would your last track be?

I like this one here Beverly Hills – Sunset On Mars (Original Mix)

‘Good Morning California’ is out now on A Must Have, you can purchase the release: here
