Luke Santos & Arturo Hevia – Nymphlight Playground (Marcelo Vasami Remix) [Asymmetric Recordings]
Asymmetric Recordings returns this week with a brand new collaborative single from Luke Santos & Arturo Hevia. Always bringing the best talent to Asymmetric, label boss Lonya calls upon one of the underground’s finest in Marcelo Vasami to remix the track. The Argentinean veteran has a real knack for crafting deep, groovy productions that work amazingly well on the dance floor but also make for captivating home listening. His aptly coined ‘Flutes’ interpretation of ‘Nymphlight Playground’ is exactly that with vibrant percussive elements and a bouncy cadence that’s perfectly dialled for club play. The vocal elements play nicely in the storyboard, setting up an emotive middle section with spiralling motfis and clever edits. Likely one of Marcelo’s most heartfelt productions to date and with support already in from Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren you know it’s one not to miss.
Formel – Pocosol [Manual Music]
Following a release on Sasha’s Last Night On Earth Dutch Formel return to Paul Hazendonk’s Manual Music for a brand new three track EP. Organic in design and deeply musical it’s the title cut which hits home for us. From its wobbly groove, growling synths and indistinct vocals it’s a colourful journey with a wide emotional range, one which will be right at home on your iPod or the dance floor.
Rick Pier O’Neil & Desaturate – Spirals (East Cafe Remix) [Yang]
Tripp Baronner’s Yang imprint returns this week showcasing a new East Cafe interpretation of ‘Spirals’ by Rick Pier O’Neil and Desaturate. As one of Hungary’s most revered talents his music has found its way into the sets of Hernan Cattaneo while appearing on a long list of esteemed imprints, most notably ICONYC, MNL, Proton Music, Soundteller Records and Stellar Fountain. East Cafe’s distinctive sound comes through once again on his ‘Spirals’ interpretation. Beginning with a beefy rugged groove, a fervor of acidic synths and ethereal designs immediately capture your imagination, while a healthy and highly detailed complement of drums fires through the framework. It makes for a powerful first act, ultimately setting up a break of trancey motifs and broken beats. Massive remix from East Cafe and another great addition to Tripp’s burgeoning concept imprint.
Holland – Mazel Tov [Soundteller Records]
Deersky’s Soundteller Records has a knack for sourcing out new, quality talent and does so again this week Holland making his debut on the label. The Bosnian artist delivers two dark cuts with the lead ‘Mazel Tov’ standing out. Tough, trippy and full of cosmic effects it firmly puts Holland on the map as a name to watch.
Abity – Cube [Stellar Fountain]
Long time Nick Warren favourites Abity return to Stellar Fountain this week with a brand new EP. The first cut ‘Cube’ shows once again what great talents the Argentinean duo are. Interesting design, crisp detailed percussion and a trippy, tension filled centrepiece highlight this unique and inspired production.
Fernando Olaya – The Departure [Just Movement]
The latest from Just Movement finds Fernando Olaya returning to the label for a new EP. Long renowned for his pristine production and innovative design the Colombian artist presents some of his best ever work in ‘The Departure’. Fluid and full, it explores techno sensibilities and progressive minded melodies for a satisfying eight minute journey.
Lucas Rossi – Retrospective [Golden Wings Music]
Golden Wings Music returns for just its second release this year by welcoming Lucas Rossi back to the label for a brand new EP. It’s been a fruitful year for Lucas, who has seen his music showcased on Balkan Connection, ICONYC, Northern Lights and Stellar Fountain. For his debut EP on Golden Wings he presents two of his most cutting edge productions to date, beginning with ‘Retrospective’. From its deep, hypnotic intro the piece builds with mountainous bass swells, clattering percussion and spaced out arps. Wispy pads carry nicely into the break, before catchy vocal edits and clusters of snares bring tension and a dynamic drop.
Paul Angelo & Don Argento – Civil War [Clinique Recordings]
Hailing from Cyprus, Paul Angelo & Don Argento seem to have a found a home on Clinique Recordings. The duo make their fourth appearance this year with ‘Civil War’; a dark, chugging number primed for peak time play and also currently storming the Beatport Progressive House charts.
Vanyano – Valhalla [3rd Avenue]
The latest from Madloch’s 3rd Avenue finds Vanyano making his label debut following a release on One Of A Kind earlier this year. The Bosnian artist delivers a stunning two track EP with the title cut being out pick with it’s tough beats, acidic rhythms and powerful hypnotic drive.
Solarc – Wicked Game (Criss Source Remix) [Balkan Connection]
Balkan Connection steps a bit outside of their comfort zone this week with a tech house flavoured release from Solarc. label artist Criss Source puts a progressive twist on the title cut ‘Wicked Game’ with a warm, chugging groove, ominous moods and distinctive vocal elements; not to mention the German artist’s trademark pristine production.
Niceshot & Armando Guerrero – Summer Space (Jose Tabarez Remix) [Massive Harmony Records]
Julian Rodriguez’s Massive Harmony Records presents a new and aptly titled single from Niceshot & Armando Guerrero this week. It’s Jose Tabarez that once again delivers a great remix here with a groovier, percussive take that still retains the airy, emotional energy of the original.
